"Texas Cooking is a book that all women, young and old, will remember always." --Catherine Anderson
The Story Behind "Texas Cooking"
Texas Cooking was inspired by many of our experiences when we moved
far into the hills of Central Texas. When you're living an hour
from the nearest Wal-Mart, and even further from the nearest mall,
you learn to appreciate the simple things our parents and grandparents
treasured. In this part of the world, life moves with a quiet simplicity,
and every town is centered around the local café. If it's
breakfast, lunch, or dinner time, you'll find folks gathered there,
sharing stories and swapping jokes. They may also talk about the
weather, the price of livestock feed, goings on at the auction barn,
politics, or fishing-all of which seem to carry fairly equal importance.
One day, after we were talking about some of our favorite cafes,
my husband left a sentence on my computer: How about a story where
a reporter from out of town finds life's wisdom in small cafes of
Central Texas? That germ of an idea generated Texas Cooking, which
became a story about finding life's wisdom, and finding love at
the same time.
